MEANDRE (4 c Slickly – Penne by Sevres Rose)

Bred by Famille Rothschild in France

ROTHSCHILD homebred Meandre became the first Group 1 winner by Darley´s Slickly, Linamix´s best son at stud, when successful in last year’s Grand Prix de Paris and remains the stallion’s best performer.

Other notable runners by Slickly include the Group 1-placed Gris de Gris and Group 3 winner Lixirova.

Slickly, whose four Group 1 victories inclued the Grand Prix de Paris for Meandre’s trainer Andre Fabre and the Prix du Moulin for Godolphin, stands at Haras du Logis for €7,000.

The only winner from three foals of racing age out of the Listed-placed Penne, Meandre is also the only stakes performer out of a mare by the Rothschild´s Sevres Rose, an unraced and lightly-used son of Caerleon who briefly stood at Haras du Quesnay. This family has worked well with Slickly before, with Penne´s half-sister, Tendre Pensee, producing the stallion´s Listed winner Gris Tendre.

YELLOW AND GREEN (f Monsun – Green Swallow by Green Tune)

Bred by Newsells Park Stud in Britain

PRIX de Malleret heroine Yellow And Green capped a wonderful week for leading German stallion Monsun, also the sire of Tercentenary Stakes winner Energizer, Queen’s Vase heroine Estimate and the dam of Ascot Gold Cup hero Colour Vision.

The Gestut Schlenderhan stallion has sired 49 Group/Graded stakes winners overall, and nine stakes winners so far this year – another, the Prix Penelope winner Waldlerche, was also bred by Newsells Park Stud.

His good week continued later on Sunday with the victory of Tertullus in a Listed race at Klampenborg in Denmark.

Bought for €160,000 by Nicolas Clement at the Arqana August Sale, Yellow And Green is the best of two winners out of Green Swallow, who won the 2003 Prix du Calvados before changing hands privately to Mrs R J Jacobs. The daughter of Green Tune is a half-sister to the Listed-winning miler Green Girl.

Brown Panther hails from the first crop of the Coronation Cup and Breeders’ Cup Turf hero Shirocco. Darley’s son of Monsun has sired six stakes winners to date led by the Group 2 scorers Arrigo and Grand Vent.

Brown Panther is the best of four winners out of Owen’s Listed Aphrodite Stakes heroine Treble Heights. The daughter of Unfuwain is a half-sister to Warm Feeling and Precede, who ran third in the Ascot Gold Cup and Derby Italiano.
