Autumn Sale – Day 3: son of Doctor Dino makes record top price

At the end of the third day of the sale, the 212 National Hunt-bred yearlings catalogued at this year’s Autumn Sale have all gone under the hammer. Like yesterday, the market was very selective in this segment. 4 yearlings were sold for €100,000 or more, a result never seen before at this sale. Nevertheless, with an increased offer of more than 40 lots compared to 2021, the average price dropped by 6% to €25,948 and the percentage of horses sold fell to 68% (-11pts). The turnover in this section amounted to €3,741,500.

Historic top price for son of Doctor Dino

Bred by Mr. Cerruti (Ecurie Cerdeval) and offered from Haras des Pierres Follets, a son of Doctor Dino out of CAPRIKA BELLA (lot 655) made an historic top price for a National Hunt-bred yearling in the ring today. From the family of KAPGARDE and BARNEY DWAN, the colt was knocked down for €200,000 in favour of Paul Basquin (Saubouas Bloodstock), bidding on behalf of Génétique Obstacle.

“We buy horses with the aim of either re-selling them or to make stallions,” said Paul Basquin. “He will most likely be gelded. He’s a beautiful son of Doctor Dino. He’s perfect physically with a walk that is out of the ordinary. His dam is by Poliglote and has already produced winners. He has everything that you want to see at a sale.”

€150,000 for a half-sister to ST DONATS
After signing the docket yesterday at €85,000 for the first foal out of Listed winner PRESIDENTE LINE by Doctor Dino, Antonin Pelsy (Spincourt Bloodstock) made his presence felt once again today when striking at €150,000 for a half-sister to last weekend’s Prix Cambacérès (Gr .1) scorer ST DONATS (lot 663), that has also won the Prix Robert Lejeune (Gr.3). Offered from Haras de Maulepaire, the daughter of Doctor Dino hails from the family of Group winners MARELLO and COGRY.

Kingman Rules On Day 3 Of Goffs November Foal Sale

Kingman ruled the sales ring on Day 3 of Goffs November Foal Sale with the Juddmonte sire accounting for the top three highest priced Lots during a session where fierce foal trade right from the outset saw major gains across all the key indicators.
Star billing went to Airlie Stud’s magnificent Kingman colt, a half-brother to Sonia Rogers and Anthony Rogers’ Champion two-year-old filly and Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Skitter Scatter (Lot 727).  The colt, whose dam Dane Street has also produced 2022 Listed winner and Group 2 Superlative Stakes runner up Victory Dance, topped the sale when selling to Stauffenberg Bloodstock for €550,000.

Roundhill Stud offered another smashing son of Kingman (Lot 606) that was sold to Juddmonte for €530,000.  The colt is out of Bobby and Honora Donworth’s wonderful foundation family that boasts Group 1 winner Zabeel Prince, Group 2 winners Puissance De Lune and Queen Power as well as Champion 2YO filly Rizeena.

Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm secured three foals on Day 3 which were headed by the €460,000 purchase of a Kingman filly from The Castlebridge Consignment (Lot 688).  She is the first foal out of winning Teofilo mare Assurance who is an own sister to Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Gear Up.

The Juddmonte presence continued with the fourth highest priced Lot of the day.  Swordlestown Little jointly topped the November Foal Sale in 2020 with their Frankel colt out of Nisriyna who went on to become Group 1 two-year-old Arrest, and today Juddmonte’s Barry Mahon signed the docket at €340,000 for Arrest’s half-brother by Wootton Bassett (Lot 591).

Rockfield Farm provided another of the day’s standouts with a son of No Nay Never (Lot 602) out of the Listed winning Piece Of Paradise selling to Rockbank Bloodstock for €330,000.  Ballylinch Stud’s Lope de Vega colt, also out of a Listed winner in Tifosa (Lot 659) sold to Trinity Bloodstock for €310,000, while late in the day a filly from the final crop of the great Champion Galileo (Lot 758) was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to BBA Ireland for €290,000.
