Karakoul And Midnight Toker Jointly Top Buoyant Autumn HIT Sale

Goffs Autumn Sales kicked off today with the one-day Horses In Training Sale where strong demand from a broad range of international and domestic buyers led to considerable increases in average, median, turnover and clearance rate.
Lot 97 Karakoul
Sold by Aga Khan Studs to Mohamed Al Attiyah for €72,000
The sale was jointly topped by Karakoul from the Aga Khan Studs draft (Lot 97) and Midnight Toker from The Castlebridge Consignment (Lot 137).  Karakoul is a three-year-old gelding by Fast Company out of the winning Shamardal mare Karalara and has been placed on several occasions, most recently when runner up in Dundalk last month for Johnny Murtagh.  He was sold to Mohamed Al Attiyah for €72,000.  Midnight Toker is a two-year-old Acclamation gelding whose half-brother K Club is a Group 3 winner in Germany while his half-sister has been Listed placed multiple times.  He sold for €72,000 to Marco Bozzi Bloodstock.

Strong Johnson (Lot 140) from trainer Denis Cullen’s Beechcourt Stables was another HIT highlight when the five-time winner and Group placed gelding sold to Taylors Bloodstock for €70,000.  Group 2 Greenlands Stakes winner Gustavus Weston (Lot 83), who is also a dual winner of the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes, was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Crampscastle Bloodstock for €60,000, while matching that amount was Painters Palette (Lot 49), a three-year-old colt by Lope de Vega out of a Group winning mare from Ballylinch Stud, who sold to Rebecca Menzies and The Horse Watchers.

Lot 137  Midnight Toker
Sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Marco Bozzi Bloodstock for €72,000
At the conclusion of the Autumn Horses In Training Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby commented:

“Although not our biggest or most prestigious sale in the calendar, today’s HIT sale fulfills an important need in the market by providing a viable outlet for Horses-In-Training in Ireland. As the forerunner to our big two-day Autumn Yearling Sale, we attract a large and diverse international crowd, and it is fair to say that we would like to grow the catalogue as we consistently deliver for the horses presented. Indeed, this is a low cost, convenient option for Irish owners and trainers when compared to the alternative and benefits from the unique contribution of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing and our network of proactive international agents.

We are grateful for the support we receive but can do so much more as is the case in every other category each year. A look at today’s buyers list sees horses knocked down to successful bidders from across Eastern Europe, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, the Gulf Region as well as the UK and domestically, and a buoyant trade from start to finish as we continue to exceed expectations. Despite a smaller catalogue every metric has improved headed by an impressive 84% clearance rate and big rises in average and median price.

For the next two days we turn our attention to yearlings and our Autumn Yearling Sale that is once again packed full of potential and value”.
