ARQANA Summer Sale: a breeding section rich in black-type

Created in 2016 and already the source of Irish Derby (Gr.1) winner SANTIAGO and Prix Edmond Blanc (Gr.3) scorer and last weekend’s Prix d’Ispahan (Gr.1) runner-up WALLY, the Summer Sale’s breeding section brings together 69 broodmares and 40 fillies in or out of training. They will go under the hammer on Friday 1st July from 11am.

The prestigious Aga Khan Studs will offer 19 lots at the sale, including 5 mares led by MANDALAYA (lot 253), a daughter of Elusive Quality out of triple Group 1 winner MANDESHA, in foal to Daryan. They will be accompanied by 14 blue-blooded fillies including TASHOURA (lot 296), an unraced daughter of Fastnet Rock out of Group placed TANOURA, that has also produced the Group winners MAGPIES BRIDGE and TANAZA.

Additionally of note among the flat-bred fillies and mares:

  • LYRA STAR (lot 247), a daughter of Frankel out of Group winner LIGHT THE STARS, from the close family of LADY VETTORI, LOPE DE VEGA and LADY FRANKEL. She is offered from La Motteraye Consignment in foal carrying for the first time to Victor Ludorum;
  • MYSTERY OF QATAR (lot 248), a daughter of Dansili out of Group winner LOUVAIN from the close family of classic winners FLOTILLA and MANGOUSTINE, the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1) winner. She is offered in foal to Ectot by La Motteraye Consignment;
  • PORTO ROMANO (lot 309), a daughter of dual Group winner VISIT, from the family of the excellent HASILI. She is offered in foal to Earthlight from Haras de l’Etre for the Elevage Ambroise Godeau;
  • Listed winner LITTLE O’KELLY (lot 314), offered from Haras des Faunes in foal for the first time to Muhaarar.

Of the National Hunt fillies and mares, several have exceptional pedigrees:

  • MISS DES OBEAUX (lot 252), a daughter of Spanish Moon, a half-sister to multiple Graded winner including the Challow Novices’ Hurdle (Gr.1) winner MESSIRE DES OBEAUX, from the Elevage de la Haute Bénaudière in foal for the first time to Nirvana du Berlais;
  • IMPALA WOOD (lot 274), a half-sister by No Risk At All to Grade 1 winner FRANCO DE PORT, carrying her first foal by BLUE BRESIL from Haras des Beaux;
  • DIANA ROYALE (lot 330), a half-sister to black-type performers SANTA DIANA and DIANAKOVA, offered carrying her first foal by Great Pretender by Haras du Vallon.
