RECENT NEWS

SECOND GROUP 1 FOR ALL TOO HARD SPRINTER
Consistent All Too Hard galloper, Wellington, was definitive when winning his second Group 1 in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin.

All the bad luck that had plagued Wellington this season was put to rest with a brilliant finishing burst on Sunday. He accelerated when it counted to defeat Ka Ying Star (GB) and Waikuku (Ire) in a performance that delighted trainer Richard Gibson.

“We fancied our chances today and the horse delivered with class and style. Now we will concentrate on the Chairman’s Sprint Prize.”

Wellington will be defending his Group 1 crown in the third-leg of the Hong Kong Spring Series on the April 24. Read more here.

VINERY GRAD FAVOURED FOR GROUP 1 OAKLEIGH PLATE
Vinery partner Greg Perry punches well above his weight in Group 1 company so it was appropriate his mare Marabi should punish her rivals at weight-for-age in the Australia Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) at Moonee Valley last start.

Marabi is unbeaten after six starts and still untapped. Bookmakers believe she’s well short of her high-water mark and have acted accordingly by making the Ciaron Maher – David Eustace trained flyer a $2.50 favourite for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 26, where she’ll jump from barrier 2.

With jockey Ben Allen enjoying an armchair ride, Perry’s homebred shot to the front and then went further ahead with a dazzling turn of acceleration to win eased down from imported gallopers Sinawann (Ire) and Turaath (GB).  “You don’t think that they’re going to win races of this calibre by that far,” Eustace admitted. Read more here.

STAR TURN 3YO SET FOR SINGAPORE CLASSICS

Star Turn completed an international treble on Saturday and among them was the 40th individual winner from his first crop.

Starsongari was first to salute for trainer Chris Bieg in The Junction Hcp (1300m) at Morphettville and she was backed up by the Marc Connors-prepped filly Starstruck Barbie in the Eagles Plumbing Hcp (1600m) at Gosford.

Starstruck Barbie is the latest maiden winner by Star Turn sending his current first-crop stats to 40 winners of 70 races at a 60% strike-rate.

Champion Singapore trainer Michael Clements led-in the third Star Turn winner when Alqantur repaid his patience at Kranji.  The unbeaten chestnut races for Al Rashid Stable and will be set for feature series later this season. Read more here.
