Grade 1 Goffs Graduates Shine At Dublin Racing Festival

On a stellar weekend at the Dublin Racing Festival, graduates of Goffs’ flagship National Hunt sales recorded a trio of Grade 1 victories with the phenomenal champion Honeysuckle as well as a Land Rover Sale double for Sir Gerhard and Minella Cocooner.

Kenny Alexander’s unbeaten mare returned to a rousing reception as the crowd at Leopardstown roared to acclaim the queens of racing – Honeysuckle and Rachael Blackmore – following their third successive Chanelle Pharma Irish Champion Hurdle triumph.

Last season’s Champion Hurdle heroine is a graduate of the Goffs Punchestown Sale, where she was purchased by Peter Molony for €110,000 from Jerry Cosgrave’s Shanrod Stables, for whom she won her point-to-point at Dromahane.

Minella Cocooner, a six-year-old Flemensfirth gelding bred by John Asple, made all under a finely judged ride by Danny Mullins to claim victory for Willie Mullins and David Bobbett. His record now stands at three wins from four starts for the Mullins team and the son of Grade 2 winner Askanna looks to have an exciting future ahead of him.

He was sold by renowned producer Gerry Ross of Limekiln Stud on behalf of Chris Jones’ Killeen Glebe for €82,000.

The second horse, Minella Crooner, was maintaining his excellent record for Gordon Elliott and David Barnard having never finished out of the first two in five starts for connections. Bred by Stephen Lanigan-O’Keeffe, the Shantou gelding is a half-brother to the Grade 2-placed L’aigle Royale and was sold by Busherstown at Goffs.

Noel and Valerie Moran’s Grade 3 winner Hollow Games brought up the 1-2-3 for graduates of the 2019 Land Rover Sale with the son of Beat Hollow adding another Grade 1 placing to his high-class record for Gordon Elliott. Bred by Margaret Wall, he was sold by Ballyallia Stud to Baltimore Stables.

Bred by the late Jonathan Fitzpatrick, Sir Gerhard is another Goffs purchase by Peter Molony who spotted his potential as a foal and bought him from the Fitzpatrick family. His Rathmore Stud sold him to Ellmarie Holden at the 2018 Goffs Land Rover Sale for €72,000.
Facile Vega – Goffs Future Stars INH Flat Race

The unbeaten five-year-old is by sire of the moment Walk In The Park and out of the brilliant Quevega, and represents the same partnership of the Hammer and Trowel Syndicate and Willie Mullins as did his outstanding dam.

The last three renewals of the Goffs-sponsored race have been won by subsequent Grade 1 victors Envoi Allen, Appreciate It and Kilcruit and Saturday’s winner looks to be a horse very much in their championship mould.
