February Mixed Sale catalogue is now online

Deauville first sale of the year, the February Mixed Sale will take place on February 15 and 16. Now available for viewing online at www.arqana.com, the 2022 catalogue is made up of 435 lots which include horses-in-training, fillies, broodmares, two-year-olds, three-year-old stores and yearlings. The auction will begin at 11am on both days. Five Wild Cards are still to come in the horses-in-training and/or broodmare section.
 
A total of 85 horses-in-training both in the Flat and National Hunt disciplines from stables such as Gianluca Bietolini, Mathieu Brasme, Simone Brogi, Nicolas Clément, David Cottin, André Fabre, Francis-Henri Graffard, Gavin Hernon, Carlos & Yann Lerner, Edouard Monfort, Jean-Claude Rouget, Antoine de Watrigant, Stéphane Wattel etc. will open the sale on Tuesday, February 15. These are led by the Carla O’Halloran trained ARAMHES (lot 78), sold to dissolve a partnership. The son of Kendargent with a current rating of 100 is a winner of three races.

While the offspring of broodmares sold at the February Sale continue to show themselves at the highest level including Group winners GINTO and JONBON as well as TRIBUVHAN, the winner of the United Nations Stakes (Gr.1), there will be 161 broodmares and 66 fillies this year that will go under the hammer.
 
Of note among the fillies out of training that have shown themselves over jumps:
 
· Prix de Chambly (Gr.3) winner at Auteuil GOLDEN PARK (lot 145), that was also placed in the Prix La Périchole (Gr.3), from Henri Blois;
· RAFFLES GRAY (lot 152), a half-sister to dual Group winner RAFFLES SUN by Great Pretender and GRAY STEAM, a sister to Prix Amadou (Gr.2) scorer GRAY STEEL, from Haras du Lieu des Champs;
 
On the flat:
 
· ANACRONIQUE (lot 164), a daughter of  the highly sought-after Japanese stallion Kizuna and Group winner IMPASSABLE, from the close family of SPOTIFY, ATTENDU, FOREIGN TUNE and ADHAMO, from Wertheimer & Frère;
· BLACK SEED (lot 176), a half-sister to A CASE OF YOU, winner of the Prix de l’Abbaye Longchamp (Gr.1) last season, from Haras d’Ombreville.

· MIDDLE EAST (lot 283), a black-type daughter of Frankel, a half-sister to Group winner NAYEF ROAD, offered in foal to Ectot;

A total of 84 yearlings and 31 two-year-olds in both disciplines will be offered, which includes progeny by Australia, City Light, Cloth of Stars, No Nay Never, Saxon Warrior, Territories, Wootton Bassett, Zarak et Zelzal  etc. on the flat, as well as Beaumec de Houelle, Doctor Dino, Goliath du Berlais, No Risk At All, Saint des Saints etc. over jumps, including:
 
· Lot 148, a half-sister by Wootton Bassett to Group 1 placed and Group winner GOLD TRIP, from Haras de la Haie Neuve;
· Lot 385, a daughter of Saint des Saints out of the black-type BECQUASCENTHE, from the close family of GRANDE HAYA, a multiple Group winner including the Grand Prix d’Automne (Gr.1), from Domaine de l’Etang;

Book 1 Goes Out With a Bang
 
A total of 263 head summoned $18,859,500 Wednesday with an average of $71,709 and a median of $40,000. The RNA rate was 19.57%. Through two Book 1 sessions, 511 Thoroughbreds grossed $36,848,700 with an average of $72,110 and a median of $40,000. The RNA rate was 22.69%. 
 
Eaton Sales had a strong session Wednesday, topping the consignor list with 18 horses sold for $2.291 million.
 
Ocala horseman Nick de Meric was quite busy Wednesday, purchasing six yearlings under the name of his Sand Hill Bloodstock for $1.015 million, making him the session’s leading buyer. He also bought three yearlings during Tuesday’s session.
 
The 3-year-old colt Belgrade (Hard Spun), a debut winner at the Fair Grounds Dec. 18, topped the day’s session, summoning $700,000 from Jane Buchanan, who was acting on behalf of Carl and Yurie Pascarella. Pascarella is the former CEO of Visa, which sponsored the $5 million Triple Crown Challenge from 1996 to 2005.
 
Thanks to Belgrade, Darley’s Hard Spun edged out Coolmore’s Munnings to be the leading sire for Book 1 with nine of his offspring bringing $1.128 million. Munnings had nine sell for $1.094 million and his undefeated stablemate Justify was third with four of his progeny grossing $1.065 million.
