01/10/2021. Goffs: Dark Angel Filly Tops Very Strong First Day At The Sportsman’s Sale

The 2021 Goffs Sportsman’s Sale roared into life within the first three lots and the strength of the demand for the yearlings on offer, all of which are eligible for the €100,000 Goffs Sportsman’s Challenge over 6 furlongs at Naas next September, fuelled a vibrant trade, the strength of which was remarked upon by many buyers.

“In terms of this sale she was a standout and we’re delighted to have gotten her,” so said Cathy Grassick of Brian Grassick Bloodstock following her successful pursuit of Lot 475a daughter of leading sire Dark Angel, who topped the opening session of the Goffs’ Sportsman’s Sale at €140,000.
Lot 475:  Dark Angel ex Ghazawaat
Sold by Lumville Farm to Brian Grassick Bloodstock for €140,000
Consigned by Lumville Farm, she is the first foal of the Siyouni mare Ghazawaat who was third in the Listed Prix la Camargo at Fontainebleau for Jean Claude Rouget and Shadwell Estate. The March-born filly is from the family of Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, Hollywood Oaks and Santa Susanna Stakes winner Fran’s Valentine who is the dam of With Anticipation who won two renewals of both the Sword Dancer invitational and Man O’War Stakes, both Grade 1 contests, and was second to High Chaparral in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Grassick noted too how the quality of horses on offer at Kildare Paddocks has attracted buyers from all around the globe.

“I’ve bought horses this week for a new client and ones from America and Australia and they are going to keep their purchases in training here which is great to see,” she added.
Lot 577:  Siyouni colt ex Miss Aiglonne
Sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Powerstown Stud for €105,000
The second yearling to hit the six-figure mark was The Castlebridge Consignment’s Siyouni colt, Lot 577, that sold to Tom Whitehead of Powerstown Stud for €105,000.  The colt is the first foal out of Miss Aiglonne, a daughter of Dawn Approach who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Mekhtaal.
Lot 630:  Bungle Inthejungle filly ex Princess Janie
Sold by Rathasker Stud to Rodrigo Goncalves/Aguiar
Lot 630 from Rathasker Stud was the next highest priced yearling on Day 1 of the Sportsman’s Sale.  By Bungle Inthejungle, the filly is out of the American Listed winner Princess Janie, a daughter of Elusive Quality and a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner Raylene from the family of Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes winner Ad Valorem, and she has already produced six winners including the Listed Rochestown Stakes second Lundy.

She will sport the increasingly successful silks of Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing, whose representatives have been busy talent-spotting the next generation of winners at Kildare Paddocks this week.

“She has been bought in partnership with Robson Aguiar for Amo Racing and she is a lovely filly, She looks a really sharp and early type and she is by the same sire as Winter Power so hopefully she can progress like her. She looks a filly with a real future,” commented Rodrigo Goncalves after signing the docket at €90,000.
