ARQANA DECEMBER AIDED BY UNI DAM

By Kelsey Riley

DEAUVILLE, France- When Uni (GB) (More Than Ready) circled the field at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 2 to win the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile, she provided cause for celebration not only for her connections both present and prior in America and France, but for the principals of Arqana, who three days later would release the catalogue for the December Breeding Stock Sale with her dam, Unaided (GB) (Dansili {GB}), among the highlight lots of the sale for Uni’s breeder Haras d’Etreham. Unaided who will go through the ring on Saturday, Dec. 7 as lot 161 Bhas the added benefit of being a young (just 10) Grade I-producing mare whose dam is a half-sister to Rafha (GB) (Kris), the dam of Invincible Spirit (Ire) and Kodiac (GB).

And to complete the package, Uni is in foal to hot young sire No Nay Never. Arqana’s Executive Director Freddy Powell, who was on hand for the celebration at the Breeders’ Cup, said, “Unaided is a real nice package. She isin foal to No Nay Never, which has to have wonderful international appeal. She is 10 years old; Uni was her first foal. It was very exciting when I saw Uni coming from the back at the Breeders’ Cup; she was probably the only horse that came from the back all day. Her turn of foot was quite something.”

KOREA, Busan Friday: Race-By-Race Preview (December 6)

by gyongmaman

It’s Grand Prix weekend and ten horses, headed by Cheongdam Dokki will line up for the traditional end of season finale at Seoul Racecourse on Sunday. Before that though, raing kicks off at Busan on Friday with 11 races from 11:30 to 18:00.

Busan World Sun

Plenty of decent betting contests across the card. Here’s Royce with the previews:

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A field of twelve Korean 2yo’s line up in the first on the card with seven of them on debut. Look for improvement from (3) GLOBAL TOP after finishing midfield when debuting last start. The Peace Rules filly sat wide throughout before running through the line fairly. With the better draw she should sit closer to the speed and be gifted an economic run. (8) ECHO MOON trialed well when qualifying. The filly clocked a good time in comparison to her opposition in this assignment and can figure first-up. (1) INDIAN CHAMP finished fifth on debut when he failed to muster shortly after the start. He picked up the bit and to run home strongly but still beaten a big margin. (11) YOU CAN MAGIC looks the best of the rest in a maiden with limited exposed form.

Selections (3) Global Top (8) Echo Moon (1) Indian Champ (11) You Can Magic

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A field of twelve two-year-olds will all debut in the second on the card. The trial of (12) GOLDEN WINNER looked sensational to the eye. The two-year-old looked like a seasoned racehorse doing everything right for Choi Si-Dae who will ride him on debut. He coasted through the line in the trial extending nicely in the straight and he looks like a potentially nice horse. (4) ONE PICK is another that comes off a nice trial performance. He responded well to the persuader in the straight to run through the line strong and record a respectable time when compare to his opposition. (9) MINYEOBONG has a tricky draw on debut but the filly showed early speed in her barrier trial. She looks one to keep safe in your wider selections. (3) MR. VALOR sat on speed in his trial when recording a fair time. He can fill a place if he gets away cleanly.

Selections (12) Golden Winner (4) One Pick (9) Minyeobong (3) Mr. Valor

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

A field of twelve maiden gallopers line up over the 1300m in the third where they have all previously been to the track. (12) POWER TRAIN was sent out at massive odds at his first start when finishing third. The colt settled well back on debut but was eye-catching when hitting the home like his namesake. The step-up to the 1300m looks ideal as he will get time to find his feet and reel of his strong sectional. (5) GOLDEN RAIN resumed last start when finishing second behind Yeongsong Bravo. The Tiz Wonderful colt should work forward early in this race and give the remainder of the field something to chase down. (10) TOP OF THE GIRL ran through the line in good fashion last time out. She is another that will be suited by the 1300m after settling back last time out. (6) FIRST STAR has been sent out short at her past couple of starts. She was sluggish away last time out but if she can sit closer to the speed she can figure.

Selections (12) Power Train (5) Golden Rain (10) Top Of The Girl (6) First Star

Next Best 9, 3

Fast Start 5, 9

Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

The fourth on the program has a field of twelve maidens to line up over the 1300m. (10) OASIS GIRL looks one of the better bets on the card. The filly was caught wide throughout last time out and still managed to clock a good time. Choi Si-Dae will be legged aboard for her fourth run where with the step-up to 1300m he can allow her to settle. She has previously shown a turn of foot and a maiden win shouldn’t be too far away. (8) MONOPOLY is another lightly raced galloper who ran fourth over the same distance last time out. The Simon Pure colt was somewhat one-paced through the line but did not yield ground. He will need a positive ride from Jeong Dong-Cheol to give the horse its best chance. (9) SEOBU GENTLEMAN is looking to break through at start ten. He placed twice in a row before finishing fourth last time out when short in the market. (12) SUPER GREAT looks a place chance at best on recent runs.

Selections (10) Oasis Girl (8) Monopoly (9) Seobu Gentleman (12) Super Great

Next Best 5, 1

Fast Start 9, 10

Race 5: Class 6 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

There appears to be plenty of early speed engaged in the fifth on the card where a field of twelve will line up over the 1600m. Francois Herholdt appears to have a handy book of rides and that includes (4) BLUE POWER. The Blue Pin two-year-old will be suited if they go helter-skelter early as he will be ready to strike at the top of the Busan straight. He has had the four career starts, placing on two occasions and never finishing worse than fifth. (7) PARTY LION has each way claims based on recent performances. The Colors Flying filly has been well thought of in the market on numerous occasions but has failed to get closer than third. She normally has early speed so expect her to settle in the leading division. (8) TWO TWO DAY placed over the 1600m two starts back when finishing behind Afleet Young. His form lines are reasonable and has finished third at his past two starts. (5) JANGGUNEUI JILJU is one of the more experienced gallopers engaged. The filly is another that has placed over the 1600m and should be kept safe in your wider selections.

Selections (4) Blue Power (7) Party Lion (8) Two Two day (5) Jangguneui Jilju

Next Best 9, 12

Race 6: Class 5 (1000M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

The halfway mark of the card will see a field of twelve line up over the short course. Choi Si-Dae has another strong hope in the form of (6) NEOLBEUN GOEUL. The lightly raced four-year-old finds a winnable assignment in an evenly matched field. He clocked a good time on a dry track last start when fourth behind Final Dream over the 1000m. (8) BEYOND is another that is capable of figuring. The Afleet Again three-year-old is unpredictable in terms of how well he gets away from the gates but if he bounces out quick he can run on strong and take some reeling in. (12) UNBONGSAN saluted on debut returning double figure odds. The filly has no weight on her back and although this is tougher, she should just jump and run and take some chasing down. (7) WONDERFUL IJI is also a Class 6 winner last start. She’s collected a cheque at four of her six career starts and there is no reason why she can’t figure again.

Selections (6) Neolbeun Goeul (8) Beyond (12) Unbongsan (7) Wonderful Iji

Next Best 3, 1

Fast Start 2, 3, 12

Race 7: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

An abundance of speed needs to be considered when assessing the seventh on the card. (3) DREAM CHASER looks like he can notch his first win after finishing runner-up at his past two starts. Albeit up in class, he will carry just 53kg after clocking a good time last time out when carrying more weight. He’s drawn perfectly and this isn’t the strongest Class 5 you will see. (4) WILD GUY lines up again over the 1300m after finishing midfield last time out in a stronger assignment. The Oh Moon-sik trained galloper broke maiden status when sitting on speed three starts back so there may be a change of tactics employed in this race. (9) ANY GOOD DAY has had a handful of starts in Class 5 company and he should be considered an each-way chance. He is one that works forward early, if Choi Si-Dae can get him in a good position he will be there at the business end of proceedings. (8) FUNKY resumed last start when fourth over the 1300m. She needs to improve a couple of lengths but there should be improvement with the first-up run under her belt.

Selections (3) Dream Chaser (4) Wild Guy (9) Any Good Day (8) Funky

Next Best 10, 5

Fast Start 3, 8, 10, 12

Race 8: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

Twelve runners will line up in the fifth where the majority of the field has had plenty of racing experience. (10) GRAND JILJU looks the one to beat albeit having to carry the top weight in the event. He ran a good time on a dry rated track last time out when second behind Centum Beongae. Time and time again we see horses with big weights struggle to show their turn of foot on the sand so expect a positive ride from Iaonnis Polluis. (3) MILLION BEAT was much improved last time out when third over this distance. Jo Chang-Wook stays aboard the filly and once again she has drawn well. (12) BIG PICTURE backed up his maiden win with a fair performance when fourth behind Two Two Fairy. It looks a tough assignment from the outside gate but the chestnut normally has early dash. (9) SUPER EAGLE ran on from a long way back last time out and at best the six-year-old can run into a place.

Selections (10) Grand Jilju (3) Million Beat (12) Big Picture (9) Super Eagle

Next Best 7, 5

Fast Start 1, 5, 10, 12

Race 9: Class 4 (1600M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

A compact field of nine gallopers will compete in the ninth with six Korean-bred gallopers against three imports who are looking for a maiden victory. (9) REVERSE SWEEP has had the two starts this preparation where on both occasions he looks as if he will appreciate the step up to the mile. He has been expensive for straight-out punters to date with just the one win and four second placings from seven starts. Third-up he should be hitting peak fitness and he gets a good chance to bring up his second victory. (2) JANGSAN TOKYO was much improved last time out when second behind Ace Boom over the 1300m. He settled midfield and ran on strong to go down less than a length. With the light weight of 52kg and a good draw he had every chance to break maiden status. (3) RAON TOWN has been promoted to Class 4 company due to his consistency. The Stromberg Carlson gelding is yet to finish worse than fourth from seven career starts. Although he is up in class, his only victory was over this distance and he will be right in this from the start as he normally races on speed. (5) DAEHEUNG SIDAE looks next best with some recent handy performances over the middle distances.

Selections (9) Reverse Sweep (2) Jangsan Tokyo (3) Raon Town (5) Daeheung Sidae

Next Best 4, 8

Fast Start 3, 5, 6

Race 10: Class 4 (1800M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Nine runners will line up in the tenth over 1800m where there appears to be only a few winning chances. (8) SAMSEONG DOKKI looks hardest to beat coming off a dominant victory last time out. The Colors Flying colt was a five length winner when making it two on the trot. He goes around in similar class but will carry 57kg, his last win was strong enough to suggest he can win again. (3) THE FACT ran an impressive sectional last time out when second behind City Winner. The Exploit colt is somewhat of a non-winner with just one win from twenty-two starts but he normally collects a cheque. (7) ONNURI GANGJA ran into Samseong Dokki last time out and they will line up against each other once again. The weight scale this time is on Onnuri Gangha’s side after having to carry 2kg more last start. The five-year-old has had plenty of racing, sixty starts yielding one win which came two starts back. (9) DOCTOR SKY on the other hand has had just the four starts for two placings. The two-year-old jumps from Class 6 company to Class 4 which will test him but he looks as if he can collect some prizemoney.

Selections (8) Samseong Dokki (3) The Fact (7) Onnuri Gangja (9) Doctor Sky

Next Best 5,2

Fast Start 8, 9

Race 11: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

The last on the card will see the Class 2 sprinters go over the 1200m. It appears as if we will have a short priced favourite in the form of (6) POWER TOUCH. The three-year-old Korean-bred has won five races from eleven starts and is in a purple patch of form. Recently he won three consecutive races before finishing third last time out behind the handy Seobu Cat. The gelding is nicely weighted and should be very hard to beat. (7) UJU DAEWANG resumes for her first run since July. The Sharp Humor filly trialed up nicely last month and looks ready to play a part first-up. She has won four from fourteen and is one that appreciates the short course. (1) JJUUK had his first start in Class 2 company last time out when finishing midfield. He drops back to the 1200m which looks to be advantageous for the four-year-old. (8) USEUNG HWANHO looks next best in the field. He has been up against this caliber of company for a while now and whilst he hasn’t won in this class, he can figure in the minor money.

Selections (6) Power Touch (7) Uju Daewang (1) Jjuuk (8) Useung Hwanho
