KOREA, Busan Friday: Race-By-Race preview (November 22)

by gyongmaman

It’s the first of two big weekends for the country’s top juveniles but first of all there is an eleven-race Friday card at Busan from 11:30 to 18:00. Here are the previews:

Glitter

Race 1: Class 6 (1000M) Allowance / KRW 24 Million

Maiden fillies to kick things off. Plenty come in with encouraging recent form and (9) TNUNDER VEGAS is the slight pick having beaten a few of these on her way to 5th and 4th place finishes in her latest two outings. Expect her to be close to the early pace here and she can go closer once more. (4) MAGIC STEALTH and (8) CHODONG JINJU both come in having recorded 3rd places in their respective latest outings and can match or better that today while (10) HUIMANG SOYEO showed significant improvement when registering a 3rd of her own two weeks ago and can build on that performance here. There are two first-time starters and (6) TOP QUEEN looks a prospect. She went through a trial in May and then again earlier this month, both times looking sharp and can go well first-up.

Selections (9) Thunder Vegas (6) Top Queen (4) Magic Stealth (8) Chodong Jinju
Next Best 10, 7
Fast Start 6, 7, 8, 9

Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

Small field of nine but a big prize for these juveniles. It’s hard to look past (1) FANTASTIC WINNER. Having won a trial in September, he was just beaten a head on debut over 1000M on October 18th with a couple off his rivals here well back down the track behind him. The additional trip shouldn’t be an issue and he should win. (4) TOP BEST and (2) BURNING STAR ran 3rd and 6th in that race and both can build on those reasonably promising debuts today although the main danger is set to be (5) YEONGSEONG VICTORY. He also ran 2nd on his debut a month ago and looks to have plenty of ability. (8) FUTURE KING best of the rest.

Selections (1) Fantastic Winner (5) Yeongseong Victory (4) Top Best (8) Future King
Next Best 2, 9
Fast Start 1, 5, 8

Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRW 60 Million

More juvenile maidens here with three of the ten racing for the first time. One of those first-timers is the pick. (2) GABO DAY is from the track’s top stable and looked competent trialling up with plenty to spare last month. This looks a sensible distance to debut at and he can win. (3) MASTER KING steps up in trip following a solid 4th place on debut five weeks ago and should be one of the main dangers. (5) MARK STAR finished last on his first try at the beginning of last month and was accordingly sent back to trial. He looked a different animal, romping home in his heat by eight lengths and should be much better today. (6) DONGNIP YEOLGANG and (7) CHEONNYEONUI GIL are others in the frame.

Selections (2) Gabo Day (3) Master King (5) Mark Star (7) Cheonnyeonui Gil
Next Best 6, 8
Fast Start 2, 3, 8

Race 4: Class 6 (1300M) Allowance / KRWS 24 Million

After a tilt at a mile last time, (2) CHEONNYEONUIHEUIMA drops back to the 1300M over which she ran 2nd, beaten a head, back in August. She’ll come from just off the pace and today could well be her day. (7) YEONGWON DYNAMO stepped up to this trip last start and finished a useful 3rd, which she can build on today, while (12) QUEEN UP was an much improved 2nd in a similar race to this four weeks ago, coming from well off the pace with a strong late run. (1) TOP SKY ran 5th on debut and is bound to get backing given the jockey/trainer combination. (11) WONDERFU EI is another who can go close.

Selections (2) Cheonnyeonuiheuima (7) Yeongwon Dynamo (12) Queen Up (1) Top Sky
Next Best 11, 3
Fast Start 1, 4, 9

Race 5: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

It took her fourteen attempts but the manner in which (5) ECHO NILE registered her maiden win three weeks ago, was certainly eye-catching, making all to win by two-lengths over 1300M. She carries an additional 4kg today, but a repeat looks very much on the cards. (12) SPEED FURY returned from eight months off at the end of October to take his record to three wins from four starts. He carries even more weight than Echo Nile but looks a talent and must be considered a danger. (2) BLACK EAGLE WING has been 4th in both starts so far and can improve today while (3) YEONGGWANGUI SAVE and (7) AMAZING TAPIT are others who can at least place.

Selections (5) Echo Nile (12) Speed Fury (2) Black Eagle Wing (7) Amazing Tapit
Next Best 3, 8
Fast Start 5, 6, 7

Race 6: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(4) CURLIN TIME was a promising looking juvenile this time last year but having finished…   Read more of this post

Own-Brother To Ghaiyyath Tops Record November Foal Sale at €1,200,000 – Goffs
A new record for a colt foal at Goffs capped a remarkable third day at Part 1 of the November Foal Sale as the Dubawi own-brother to 2019 Group 1 winner Ghaiyyath out of the Classic winning Galileo mare Nightime sold for €1.2 million to Godolphin.  The star of an outstanding draft from the Castlebridge Consignment (Lot 745), sold on behalf of breeder Dermot Weld, was knocked down to Anthony Stroud to also become the second highest priced foal of all time at Goffs.
Dermot Weld speaks about his sales-topping Dubawi colt ex Nightime

The top priced filly of the sale was the beautiful Dark Angel half-sister to Irish 1000 Guineas winner Just The Judge (Lot 658) that sold to Shadwell Estate Company for €575,000.  Bred by Joan Keaney-Dempsey, she was consigned by Ballylinch Stud.

Reflecting on a record breaking November Foal Sale Part 1, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

We’re nothing without the horses” is a phrase we use regularly and it was never truer than today as we witnessed a trade of intensity and strength which was driven by a superb selection of the cream of the 2019 foal crop. We are indebted to so many leading breeders, from Ireland and the UK, who have entrusted us with their best foals and are simply delighted to have repaid that trust with some amazing prices.

Heading the day was unsurprisingly the beautiful own brother to Ghaiyyath who had held the distinction of being the highest priced colt foal ever in Ireland, as well as Europe’s highest priced foal of his year. For the 2019 colt to eclipse even that price at €1.2 million is a superb result for his breeders and we are so grateful that we were given the chance to deliver for them again. His price was backed up by three others to better last year’s top price and a trade of sustained demand over the three days of our Part 1 Foal Sale that built to a real crescendo today as clearly demonstrated by an incredible 91% clearance rate and a huge €98,248 average, which advanced 32%. Indeed, each Part 1 statistic has advanced with a record average, up 16% and a whopping 47 foals making €100,000 or over, up from 38 last year.

We extend our thanks to every vendor, however big or small, and wish each buyer the best of luck whether they have bought to resell or race. Goffs November Foals have an excellent record in both spheres so we look forward to offering many of this year’s catalogue at the Goffs and Doncaster next year, and then cheering them into winners’ enclosures around the world.

For now we turn our attention to some lovely Breeding Stock and then the Part 2 Foals which are sure to offer more great opportunities”.
