Goffs Graded Double at Gulfstream

Goffs graduates enjoyed a Graded double in Florida at the weekend, landing two of the feature races at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. These were headed by Glorious Empire in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale Stakes, winning by 2 ½ lengths over the Gr1 placed Qurbaan in second and Gr1 winner Hi Happy in third.  The James Lawrence-trained Glorious Empire, a Grade 1 winner earlier this year in the Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga, was purchased from the Goffs November Sale by Whatton Manor Stud for €20,000 from Killourney Mor Farm.

Earlier on the Gulfstream card, Orby graduate Capla Temptress landed the Grade 3 My Charmer Stakes for trainer Bill Mott and Team Valor International. This weekend’s win is another Graded success for the former Grade 1 Natalma Stakes winner. Bred by Pier House Stud, Capla Temptress was sold at the Goffs Orby Sale to Jamie Lloyd for €26,000.

Further black type success for the Orby Sale was seen in France on Sunday with a win for promising 2yo Feliciana De Vega in the Listed Prix des Sablonnets at Deauville for Ralph Beckett and Waverly Racing.  Sold at the 2016 Orby Sale by The Castlebridge Consignment to Stuart Williams, this was the second start for the filly who showed great potential when winning her debut by 6 lengths.
