BENGALI BOYS (IRE) (c, 2, Clodovil {Ire}–Caherassdotcom {GB}, by Compton Place {GB}), was an Apr. 19 debut scorer at Beverley and went postward for this Weatherbys Super Sprint, and fourth straight try at five furlongs, returning off runner-up finishes at Doncaster May 6 and at Redcar last time May 29. Handily placed behind the leaders through solid early fractions, the 12-1 chance was sent to the front soon after passing the quarter-mile marker and surged ever clear under mild rousting on the rain-softened turf in the closing stages to win this valuable pot by daylight. At the line, he had six lengths to spare over Declarationoflove (Ire) (Declaration of War) with Maggies Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) a further neck adrift in third. “It looks like he likes that [soft] ground,” said trainer Richard Fahey. “He’d been working well at home and had some solid form. It’s a race we target every year because it’s for the sort of cheap horses that we like to buy and this fellow only cost €11,000. I said the day we bought him he’d win the Weatherbys Super Sprint and it’s not often you can say that.” Winning rider Barry McHugh added, “He’d go and do it again and, to travel in that ground and win like he did, what a star he is. I was worried about Maggies Angel beforehand, but he has strengthened up a lot since his little break [after Redcar] and wasn’t a no hoper. This is what it’s all about for owners, to get one at a reasonable price and win a pot like this. It pays for his way and for a few others too.” The €11,000 GOFSPT yearling is out of a half-sister to MGSP three-time stakes winner Dubai’s Touch (GB) (Dr Fong), Listed HH The President Cup scorer Grantley Adams (GB) (Dansili {GB}), G3 Diomed S. third Wannabe Around (GB) (Primo Dominie {GB}) and G3 Prix de la Jonchere placegetter Nobelist (GB) (Bering). Half-brother to a yearling colt by Casamento (Ire), he hails from a family which includes G3 Fred Darling S.-winning G1 Irish 1000 Guineas runner-up Penkenna Princess (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}). Lifetime Record: 4-2-2-0, $167,104. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.

Madeline | Racing Post

By Sean Cronin

Madeline, who was a May 12 debut fifth going five furlongs at Ascot, broke through upped one panel at Goodwood next time May 27 and went postward here returning off a fifth in a stellar edition of Royal Ascot’s G3 Albany S. June 23. Settled off the pace in rear after the initial strides, she was urged closer approaching the final quarter mile and kept on strongly once seizing control at the eighth pole to post a career high in ultimately comfortable fashion. “She’s a filly we’ve always liked, she ran very well at Ascot and won nicely at Goodwood the time before,” said winning trainer Roger Varian. “It’s nice to make her a stakes winner, we’ll be doing our best to add to her CV during the remainder of the rest of the season and the [Aug. 24 G2] Lowther [S. at York] would look the logical next step. She gets the six furlongs very well and I think she would quicken a bit sharper on faster ground. She’s not the biggest, but is very strong and very fast. She looks a real 2-year-old, but let’s hope she’s a good 3-year-old too.”

Kin to a yearling filly by War Command, Madeline is the lone performer out of Swiss champion sophomore filly Madhulika (Fr) (Marchand de Sable), herself a full-sister to three-time stakes winner and G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest third Dolma (Fr), who in turn produced G1 Pretty Polly S.-winning Irish highweight Thistle Bird (GB) (Selkirk) and MGSW G1 Cantala S. runner-up McCreery (GB) (Big Bad Bob {Ire}). Madeline’s stakes-placed granddam Young Manila (Manila) is a daughter of G3 Prix Vanteaux second Young Hostess (Fr) (Arctic Tern) and is a half-sister to MGSW G2 Prix de Royallieu victress Fabulous Hostess (Fabulous Dancer), herself the granddam of MG1SW Solow (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}).
