+YARAKI (GB) (f, 3, Frankel {GB}–Superstar Leo {Ire} {Hwt. 2yo Filly-Eng & Fr, MGSW-Eng, G1SP-Fr & Ire, $287,484}, by College Chapel {GB}) was well away to stalk the leader in a prominent second from the outset of this debut. Given a tickle to take a slender lead passing halfway, the 6/4 favourite was stoked up when threatened on both sides approaching the two pole and kept on strongly under continued rousting in the closing stages to edge Dealer’s Choice (Ire) (Exchange Rate) by a neck. Out of G2 Flying Childers S. winner and MG1SP European champion juvenile filly Superstar Leo (Ire) (College Chapel {GB}), the bay is a half-sister to G3 Molecomb S. and G3 King George S. heroine Enticing (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}), the stakes-winning G3 Jersey S. runner-up Sentaril (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and a 2-year-old filly by Dansili (GB). She shares her granddam Council Rock (GB) (General Assembly) with last term’s G1 Racing Post Trophy victor Rivet (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), and is from a family which includes G1 2000 Guineas-winning sire Footstepsinthesand (GB) (Giant’s Causeway), et al. Tamayuz’s Precieuse In Pouliches Shocker

6th at DVL, Gr. Stk, €500,000 G1 Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (8f) Winner: Precieuse (Ire), f, 3 by Tamayuz (GB)

By Tom Frary

PRECIEUSE METTLE
As the only sprinter in the line-up for Saturday’s G1 Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, Anne-Marie Hayes’s Precieuse (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) had it to prove but the Knocktoran Stud homebred saw out the mile emphatically to cause an upset in the Deauville-staged Classic. Just off the pace in the stand’s-side group under Olivier Peslier, the 28-1 shot who was last seen finishing runner-up in the G3 Prix Sigy over six furlongs at Chantilly Apr. 9 was able to deliver her raw speed where it mattered at the end of this competitive renewal.

Despite drifting markedly right in the run to the line, the homebred chestnut readily overhauled the British raider Sea of Grace (Ire) (Born To Sea {Ire}) in the final 100 metres to win by 1 3/4 lengths, with Heuristique (Ire) (Shamardal) another surprise package just 3/4 of a length away in third. The 4-1 favourite Senga (Blame) held every chance inside the last quarter mile, but faded to be 11th. “This filly was working well, but of course there was a question mark about the distance,” commented trainer Fabrice Chappet after greeting his first group 1 winner. “In the mornings she was showing me she would probably get the trip, but you never know until you go to the races. This is a great result for the whole team and is also the first filly I have trained for Mrs Hayes, so I have to thank her for trusting me.”

Introduced as late as Oct. 12 in a six-furlong debutantes contest at Chantilly, Precieuse ended up a short-neck second to Charm Appeal (Fr) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) who ironically was only able to beat three rivals in this race. In that same berth behind the British raider Private Matter (GB) (Mayson {GB}) in the Listed Prix Zeddaan 15 days later at that distance at Maisons-Laffitte, she was again the bridesmaid behind another from that country in Simmie (Ire) (Fast Company {Ire}) in the Nov. 15 Listed Prix Yacowlef over 5 1/2 furlongs back at Chantilly. Returning with a confidence-building three-length success in a six-furlong conditions event at Fontainebleau Mar. 17, she had her limitations exposed over speed trips when 3 1/2-lengths second to France’s budding sprinting star Fas (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in the Prix Sigy.

Held on to by Olivier Peslier early tracking old rival Charm Appeal who led her pack, Precieuse was out of her ground with the group racing up the middle tending to dominate. With Charm Appeal providing a perfect lead to the quarter pole, Peslier was unconcerned as the likes of Roly Poly (War Front) and Senga made their moves to her right. Giving Via Ravenna (Ire) (Raven’s Pass) a nudge as she was pulled out from behind the tiring leader, she picked up impressively to counter the attack of Sea of Grace on the wide outside and as she veered towards the Haggas runner it was clear that she was delivering an irresistible surge. There can be no fluke to this result and Precieuse is an unexposed filly at this trip, but as she is not entered for the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot June 23 her trainer will have to think about where to go now. “I don’t think she’ll stay much further than this and we will have to see how she comes out of it and decide what to do,” Chappet said. “She can always come back here for the [July 30 G1 Prix] Rothschild.”

William Haggas said of Sea of Grace, “She is definitely better on that ground and settled well. She came from a little bit far back, but at one stage I thought she’d win. I am obviously delighted and will bring her back for another group 1 race over a mile.” Heuristique’s trainer Francis-Henri Graffard commented, “I am delighted with the result. She was trained specifically for this and had a real race today, so we’ll see how she comes out of it, I don’t think she’ll stay further than that and if she recovers well she could come back in the [G2 Prix de] Sandringham [at Chantilly June 4].”
Precieuse is the latest promoter of her Co. Limerick-based Knocktoran Stud of Brendan and Anne-Marie Hayes, with her dam Zut Alors having raced for the operation with distinction when third in the 2006 G3 Prix Miesque.

She is also the dam of the G3 Prix Fille de l’Air runner-up Peut Etre (Ire) (Whipper) and the Listed Hopeful S. third and 2014 Wokingham H. scorer Baccarat (Ire) (Dutch Art (GB). Zut Alors is one of five black-type performers out of the four-times stakes winner Zeiting alongside the G2 Grosse Europa Meile hero Combat Zone (Ire) (Refuse To Bend {Ire}), the G3 Strensall S. scorer and G1 Caulfield Cup runner-up Scottish (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) and his G3 Geoffrey Freer S-winning full-brother Royal Empire (Ire). The third dam Belle de Cadix also produced the G3 Prix du Bois winner Dolled Up (Ire) (Whipper) and is a three-parts sister to the triple group winner and G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis runner-up Fortune’s Wheel (Ire) (Law Society). Dolled Up’s half-sister Madany (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) is also the dam of the G1 Dewhurst S. and G1 2000 Guineas runner-up Massaat (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}).

Zut Alors, whose group-placed half-sister Bikini Babe (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) produced an Exceed and Excel filly Rkaya who sold to Al Shaqab Racing as a yearling for €360,000, also has an as-yet unraced 2-year-old colt by Dark Angel (Ire) named Delph Crescent (Ire).

Signs Of Blessing | Scoop Dyga

By Tom Frary

With Signs of Blessing under a stopping 11-pound penalty for his success in last year’s G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, there was an understandable flurry of interest from all around to try and exploit any vulnerabilities in the Rohaut juggernaut. Faced by the 2016 G1 King’s Stand S. hero Profitable and five black-type winning compatriots including last year’s winner Finsbury Square, a respectable role in defeat would have been entirely forgivable and was almost expected but the bay was nevertheless able to lead a procession up his favoured track. Only sixth in this last year as a result of a failed attempt at restraint, the bay who had previously slammed Finsbury Square by six lengths in the 5 1/2-furlong Listed Prix Cor de Chasse at Fontainebleau bounced back under forcing tactics to finish less than a half-length third in Royal Ascot’s G1 Diamond Jubilee S. in June. Taking the Maurice de Gheest over 6 1/2 furlongs at this venue, Signs of Blessing was fourth in the G1 Qipco British Champions Sprint S. back at Ascot in October and just over a length fifth in the Dec. 11 G1 Hong Kong Sprint.

Sent on in customary fashion by Stephane Pasquier, he was shadowed throughout by Profitable but began to extend his advantage from the furlong pole and remorselessly crushed his rivals in what amounts to a career-best. “That was a truly great performance, having been away for such a long time and having to give a lot of weight away,” trainer Francois Rohaut said. “With all the minor problems we have had with him this winter, we couldn’t bring him back any earlier so I have to be delighted, especially as the ground was also on the soft side which he does not like. He is a truly adaptable horse who loves this racecourse. We’ll head to Royal Ascot now for the [June 20 G1] King’s Stand S.”

Signs of Blessing’s unraced dam is a daughter of the Listed Cheshire Oaks third Sunray Superstar (GB) (Nashwan), a full-sister to the G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine and G1 Prix de Diane runner-up Nadia (GB). Their dam Nazoo, who captured the Listed Rochestown S. at two, is a full-sibling of the G3 Anglesey S.-winning pair Single Combat and Lake Como and to the dam of the nine-times grade I-winning dual turf champion Flawlessy (Affirmed). This is also the family of the Listed Silver Flash S. winner and G1 Prix Morny third Heeremandi (Ire) (Royal Academy), the four-times group-winning sire Zindabad (Fr), the GI Turf Classic S. hero Divisidero (Kitten’s Joy) and champions Tosmah (Tim Tam) and Halo. Sun Bittern’s 2-year-old filly is like Signs of Blessing also by Invincible Spirit and she is named It’s a Wish (GB).

Kodiac’s Best Solution Dominates the Derby Trial

2nd at LIN, Lst Stk, £60,000 Listed Betfred Derby Trial S. (11f 133y) Winner: Best Solution (Ire), c, 3 by Kodiac (GB)

Best Solution | Racing Post

By Tom Frary

Burdened with a five-pound penalty for his success in last year’s G3 Autumn S. at Newmarket, Best Solution made light work of this task to state concrete Derby claims for Godolphin. Already well-travelled having been to Turkey as a juvenile and to Meydan this winter, the bay has proven steadily progressive since breaking his maiden over six furlongs at Goodwood last July. Blowing the start when third in Veliefendi’s six-furlong International Trakya Trophy behind the local favourite Waneta (Tur) (Mountain Cat) and his stablemate Top Score (GB) (Hard Spun) who ran so well in the 2000 Guineas last Saturday, Best Solution came back to Britain to be fourth in the G3 Tattersall S. over seven furlongs at Newmarket before springing a 12-1 surprise in the Autumn on his first try at a mile. Upped again in trip to 10 furlongs when second in the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in late October, he was fourth in the seven-furlong UAE 2000 Guineas Trial trying the dirt at Meydan Jan. 26 and eighth in the G2 UAE 2000 Guineas Feb. 11.

Largely overlooked by the punters partly as a result of his unorthodox path to this time-honoured prep and due to the buzz created by Ballydoyle’s ultimately disappointing Sir John Lavery (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Best Solution was typically professional from the outset and tracked the generous tempo in third. Allowed to stride to the front passing the three-furlong marker, he surged clear in a matter of strides and only needed to be kept up to his work to string the field out. “It was a good gallop and a good test and he handled the track well,” rider Pat Cosgrave commented. “He wouldn’t want the ground to be lightning-fast, but I can’t fault him. He stays well and why not the Derby? I like the way he has a good attitude, tries hard and he’d handle something like Epsom pretty well.” Saeed bin Suroor added, “He didn’t handle the dirt–he ran on it twice and we came back straight from Dubai as we did not want to run him in the UAE Derby. He is in the English and Irish Derbys and we will have to talk to Sheikh Mohammed and he will make the decision. He is improving all the time and I’m sure he will improve from this race too. I think the ground won’t make any difference to where he goes. More than likely he will be running in the [June 3] English Derby.”

John Gosden was taking a lot of positives from the performance of the slow-starting Glencadam Glory, who ousted stablemate Tartini to be second. “They have both run well. Tartini goes to the [June 23 G2 Queen’s] Vase at Ascot. Mr Hillman bought Glencadam Glory and he would like to run him in the big one, just if the trainer can get him to leave the gate with the others, rather than a number of lengths behind. Last time it was 20 lengths at Sandown, so we are improving. He is learning. The winner has group form.” Ryan Moore said of Sir John Lavery, who was laboured in the straight, “He was only just ready and he got a bit tired. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.”

If successful on the first Saturday in June, Best Solution will be the second Derby hero to emerge from the first three generations of his family after Workforce (GB), who also captured the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The G3 Noblesse S. runner-up Kushnarenkovo is also the dam of the G2 Prix Hocquart and G3 Sandown Classic Trial runner-up Cape Clear Island (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), while the third dam Eva Luna is the G3 Park Hill S.-winning European highweight who went on to produce the G1 St Leger hero Brian Boru (GB) and the MGSW and GI Breeders’ Cup Turf runner-up Sea Moon (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}). Her unraced daughter Soviet Moon (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) was responsible for Workforce, who now stands at Knockhouse Stud. The dam also has a 2-year-old colt by Epaulette (Aus) named Desert Mountain (Ire).

Foxwedge’s Hertford Dancer Secures Trial Success

1st at LIN, Lst Stk, £40,000 Listed Betfred Mobile Oaks Trial Fillies’ S. (11f 133y) Winner: Hertford Dancer (GB), f, 3 by Foxwedge (Aus)

Hertford Dancer | Racing Post

By Tom Frary

Hertford Dancer does not hold an entry in the June 2 G1 Epsom Oaks, but she was firmly on top here as she sprang a minor surprise on her first attempt at black-type. Ironically sixth behind her stable’s leading English or French Oaks contender and TDN Rising Star Shutter Speed (GB) (Dansili {GB}) over a mile at Yarmouth in October, the chestnut was kept going on the all-weather over the winter and booked this outing when showing promise as the runner-up in an extended 10-furlong handicap at Nottingham Apr. 12. Held up early in fourth, she was sent in pursuit of the likely winner Pocketfullofdreams from the top of the straight and after being angled around that Ballydoyle challenger collared her with a furlong to race and outstayed her from there.

Connections are not looking at a supplementary for the Oaks. “I thought she’d be in three, but I didn’t think she’d win to be honest,” trainer John Gosden commented. “She’s all heart though and when they never give up that’s a lot of the battle. She has the heart the size of a lion. She always gives her best. She ran on well at Nottingham the other day but just ran out of real estate and that was a mile and a quarter, this was a mile and a half–this is what she wants. This was her Oaks day and we are very aware of that. I will think of something else other than Epsom and box clever. I know the family well. I bought the mare for Mr Strawbridge. He had three decent ones who all got to a level. This one, with the step up in trip, has just gone to another level.” Harry Herbert, who represents the breeder Highclere Stud, added, “Maybe a race like the [G2] Ribblesdale [S. June 22] will be right for her at Royal Ascot.”

Coolmore spokesman Kevin Buckley said of the runner-up, “She came to win the race, but after that it was a little fact-finding. I think she will probably drop back down to a mile and two furlongs to be honest. I think she is probably happier over that, as she showed at Navan last time. But she’s run a good race–it is just the extra distance that found her out today. I would not make the ground as an excuse. We’ll drop her back and you will be seeing plenty of her. She has a fair bit of ability and Ryan likes her, he rode her exactly as planned.”

Despite the low-key start to her career and her odds here suggesting Hertford Dancer is a lesser light with regards to pedigree, her second dam is the listed-winning Massarra (GB) (Danehill) who was also runner-up in the G2 Prix Robert Papin and G3 Nell Gwyn S. Her trio by Galileo (Ire) were all black-type performers for Ballydoyle headed by the G1 St James’s Palace S. third Mars (Ire), while her daughter of Cape Cross (Ire) Nayarra (Ire) won the G1 Grand Criterium and was also second in the Nell Gwyn. The third dam takes her paperwork to an exalted level, with the G1 Prix de Diane heroine Rafha the dam of the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup-winning leading sire Invincible Spirit (Ire) and Kodiac (GB) whose son Best Solution (Ire) took the Derby Trial on this card. Rafha is a half to the G3 Blandford S. scorer Chiang Mai (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) who produced the G1 Pretty Polly S. winner Chinese White (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}). Tebee also has a 2-year-old colt by Fastnet Rock (Aus) named Rockabill (GB) and a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire).

SABATO 13 MAGGIO 2017. #Chantilly: #Précieuse a sorpresa sigla le Poule femminili a 40/1! Battute Sea Of Grace e Heuristique, favorite a picco

Giappone: Mirco Demuro, 9° sigillo in Pattern.

Aste: #Arqana May 2yo #Breeze Up, ancora record.
