Pisa è sempre una pista particolare. Per vincere devi sapere interpretare bene il tracciato, le scie e la posizione, fondamentale sin dall’inizio. Fabio Branca ha utilizzato esattamente queste istruzioni e le ha trasmesse ad Azzeccagarbugli (Kodiac) il quale, dopo la debacle nel Gran Criterium, si è ampiamente rifatto nel Criterium di Pisa risolto con una semplicità che nemmeno i distacchi ufficiali hanno saputo descrivere. Per la Effevi era la prima affermazione in questa corsa di San Rossore, ed il figlio di Kodiac (Danehill) ha battutoAzhor Azhai (Distant Way) e Jalapeno (Windsor Knot), con i due dirimpettai partiti bene e rimasti in quota. Meno fortuna l’hanno avuta Streetcore (Footstepsinthesand), con Tore Sulas che ad un certo punto non sapeva dove far progredire il suo, ed Exclusive Potion(Elusive City) che invece ha mancato il break ed è rimasto nelle retrovie, pur recuperando molto nella fase finale. Peccato, ma la copertina è tutta per l’Avvocato di Manzoniana memoria, capace di ottenere la terza Listed in carriera dopo Criterium Partenopeo e Rumon. Nell’Andred Handicap Listed, vittoria con giallo per Aury Touch (Pounced) la quale, nonostante un peso gravoso, è riuscita ad emergere dopo lunga progressione con Dario Vargiu in sella per la Ste.Ma e Stefano Botti (Endo, anzi) al training. A dire la verità sul palo per prima era sopraggiuntaTouche Eclatante (Champs Elysees) ma la portacolori della Dioscuri ha sbandato per 3 volte (2 pregiudizievoli, 1 ininfluente) nei confronti della poveraVittoria Apuana (Strategic Prince) a quel punto promossa al secondo. With Frankie Dettori turning 45 we take a look at some of the highlights from the career of the 2015 World’s Best Jockey

Dettori arrived in the UK as a teenager and did not take long to make a splash, becoming the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in one season. His first Group 1 winner also arrived quickly, riding Markofdistinction for Luca Cumani in the 1990 running of Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot, a course he was to become synonymous with.

Frankie Dettori celebrates on Fujiyama Crest

On September 28, 1996, Dettori went through the card at his beloved Ascot, with his final win coming aboard Fujiyama Crest. It became known as the ‘Magnificent Seven’ and is a feat that has not been achieved on a British racecourse before or since.

If ever one horse in one race summed up Dettori’s relationship with Godolphin it was Dubai Millennium’s six-length win in the 2000 Dubai World Cup. The colt was renamed (from Yaazer) to make an impact at Nad Al Sheba on World Cup night, and Dettori delivered in emphatic style.

By 2007 there were few big races Frankie Dettori had not won, but the Derby was a glaring omission. That changed when he partnered the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained Authorized to a five-length success.

Dettori’s glittering career took a major hit in 2012, when he lost his job of 18 years with Godolphin and served a six-month ban testing positive for cocaine.

Al Shaqab Racing and former boss John Gosden helped him rebuild and in 2015 Golden Horn catapulted him back into the big-time by winning the Derby, Eclipse, Irish Champion and Arc. He also rode his 50th Royal Ascot winner and ended the year atop of the Longines World’s Best Jockey rankings.
