The Godolphin-owned Toormore, who captured a brace of Group 2s when winning the Lennox Stakes and Topkapi Trophy this summer, is due to arrive in Hong Kong on Saturday evening on a flight from Heathrow that includes Mile rival Mondialiste and Longines Hong Kong Vase contender Cannock Chase.

Bookmakers have taken opposing views on his chances with Sky Bet making Toormore 20-1 for the HK$23 million (£1.9m/€2.7m) Mile, but Paddy Power go 11-1.

“He’s in great form and will like the track out there,” said the trainer, who will be saddling his first runner at Sha Tin. “The ground shouldn’t be a problem. Fingers crossed he’ll run well, but it looks a very good race.”

Able Friend – the highest-rated Hong Kong horse of all time – leads the opposition and heads the betting at a general 5-4 with British bookmakers, while Maurice, whom Ryan Moore described as one of the best milers in the world after the pair won a Grade 1 in Japan recently, is next best at 9-2.

James Doyle, who finished last on Captain Cat in the Mile last year, rides Toormore.
