Saeed bin Suroor and all the team at Godolphin are deeply saddened to report the loss of Cavalryman, who sustained a serious fracture in his right hind leg while running in the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan on Saturday, 28 February.

His trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented: “He was a real character in the yard and was treasured, not only by me, but by everyone here – all of the team; we are very upset by the tragic news. He had a wonderful career and he will be hugely missed.”

The talented racehorse began his career in France with trainer Andre Fabre and recorded his first win for Godolphin in the G2 Prix Niel at Longchamp in 2009. Cavalryman went on to compete in a number of Pattern races and returned to winning ways in the 2012 Listed Grand Cup at York.

Since then, the nine-year-old stable stalwart went on to record a host of impressive performances. Notable victories include a three-length success in the G3 Dubai Gold Cup in 2013 and a dominating display in the 2014 G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy, both at Meydan.

The son of Halling posted back-to-back G2 successes in July 2014; winning the Princess of Wales’s Stakes and the Artemis Goodwood Cup, taking his number of career wins to 10.

Godolphin would like to thank everyone for their support,Cavalryman will be missed.
