The French 1,000 Guineas winner avoided any traffic problems by coming down the centre of the track and was decisively on top of the finish, Benoist able to stand and celebrate in the saddle, while there was a bunched finish for the minor honours.

Last year’s winner of the Diane was subsequent Arc heroine Treve, and Avenir Certain is as big 16-1 for Europe’s richest race, with Treve 7-2 favourite to defend her title.

One of three leading contenders for the race, Avenir Certainwas towards the rear of the field, while Newmarket 1,000 Guineas victor Miss France sat prominently with favourite Shamkala just behind.

Maxime Guyon appeared to be in prime position tracking the pacesetting Local Hero, but found himself boxed in when the tempo quickened, and was briefly hampered when Local Hero started to weaken.

However, Guyon still had plenty of time to arrest the situation, and even with a clear run to the line, Miss France came up short.

Shamkala, also unbeaten coming into the race, made her challenge, but like the rest of the field had no answer to Avenir Certain’s burst out wide, and finished fourth.

While Avenir Certain returned at 9-2, second went to 33-1 outsider Amour A Papa and third was 25-1 chance Xcellence.

A delighted Rouget said: “She always makes it so hard to watch! But I could see she was going well turning in and she is just a filly with “extra-extra.” She does it all. I’ve never seen a race like it, she reminds me of Zarkava.”

The great Zarkava won the race in 2008 for Alain de Royer-Dupre, and would go on to claim the Arc the same year, ending her career unbeaten in seven starts.

Chantilly: Prix du Lys Longines (Group 3) 3yo colts and geldings

GUARDINI (Jean-Pierre Carvalho/Christophe Soumillon) was allowed to dominate from the front and always had enough to repel any late challengers.

An unlucky loser at Longchamp last time, Guardini has now won two of his three starts, with the previously unbeaten Teletext coming with a late run to take second.

Chantilly: Prix Bertrand du Breuil Longines (Group 3)1m, 4yo+

BRITISH raiders Fire Ship and Empire Storm were out of luck as Pinturicchio (Elie Lellouche/Anthony Crastus) came with a decisive late run.

Empire Storm had taken the field along but was swamped late on with Spoil The Fun and Silas Marner filling the places.

Chantilly: Avenir Certain ancora lei.

O almeno, galoppa in modo quantomeno particolare.
