SABATO 29 MARZO 2014.
Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored By Gulf News (Group 1) (Tapeta) - $1 milione – 1200 metri: (VIDEO QUI): Dichiarato prima, vale doppio.
DUBAI GOLD CUP G2 (VIDEO QUI) – $1 milione – 3200 metri – erba.

Godolphin take the World Cup with African
Report: Meydan, Saturday
Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airlines (Group 1) 1m2f, Tapeta
A NIGHT of near misses for Godolphin ended with the ultimate triumph as African Story led home a one-three for Sheikh Mohammed’s operation, with his brother Sheikh Hamdan owning the second Mukhadram.

Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor and ridden by Silvestre de Sousa, African Story chased Mukhadram to the top of the straight and stormed clear in the closing stages allowing De Sousa to stand up and celebrate to the crowd.
Mukhardram finished second for William Haggas and Paul Hanagan with Cat O’Mountain third for Charlie Appleby.
On Dubai’s big night, Sheikh Mohammed had to have his gracious loser smile on for most of the evening as Cavalryman finished second in the Dubai Gold Cup and several fancied runners ran below par.
However, he will have started to get excited as Mukhadram led the runners into the home straight with African Story poised to strike if good enough.
De Sousa asked his mount for an effort at the top of the home straight and he responded generously, charging clear of Mukhadram and the field.

“He has proved he’s the best,” said De Sousa.” He was very unlucky on his first run this year, and very unlucky last time as well as he banged his head on the gate. Now he’s proved he’s the boy – we did it!”
Paul Hanagan was thrilled with the performance of Mukhadram, whose ability to handle the surface had been queried by his owner earlier in the week.
“I am so proud of him, he ran his absolute heart out,” the jockey said. “He even tried to battle back when the other one came, he is so genuine. It was a great training performance as well after such a long break. I hope that sets him up nicely for the year.”
There were several disappointments in the race including favourite Military Attack and Ruler Of The World never landing a blow.
Harry Herbert, racing manager of Al Shaqab Racing, part-owners of Ruler Of The World, said: “He didn’t handle the surface. He travelled okay but as soon as you asked him to quicken he was all at sea on it. It rode very dead. Tonight was not to be but we will regroup and see what to go for on grass. I’ve no doubt there are some big days ahead.”

African Story Writes Fairy tale Dubai World Cup Ending for Godolphin
African Story proved the catalyst for the Meydan grandstand to erupt on Saturday evening as Saeed bin Suroor’s Godolphin runner streaked away with the 19th running of the US$10m Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates.
The trainer was winning the world’s richest race for a sixth time and provided HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with a seventh triumph.
Bin Suroor had failed to lift the trophy since Electrocutionist scored at Nad Al Sheba in 2006 and African Story was the long-standing handler’s first win in the race at the imposing Meydan Racecourse.
Silvestre de Sousa was never worse than second aboard the 7y/o who pulled 2 1/2-lengths clear down the stretch to see off the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Mukhadram who valiantly tried to make all under Paul Hanagan.
The ruling Maktoum family enjoyed a terrific podium finish with Godolphin’s Charlie Appleby-trained Cat O’Mountain overcoming his outside stall disadvantage to finish third.
“This is our sixth win in the race and it has been a long time in coming,” said bin Suroor. “There has been a lot of pressure from a lot of people, but I thought two years ago this was the right horse for this race. In my heart I thought this horse could win – he is something really special and I told Sheikh Mohammed this two years ago.
“This is a big thrill and I dedicate this win to my mother and I will give her my golden whip.”
De Sousa had failed to frame on his two previous Dubai World Cup rides but struck lucky at the third attempt, and said: “It turned into a perfect race for me as I only had one horse in front of me. I knew I had to get past him quick and it was a big relief when I went clear.
“African Story has good track form having won the Godolphin Mile two years ago. He travelled well and quickened great and I am over the moon.
“There is pressure, but at the same time I think I have shown that I have given my best and that there may still be more to come.”
British raider Mukhadram tracked across from stall 15 under Paul Hanagan and appeared as though he had stolen a march on the field turning for home, only to be run down by African Story.
Hanagan commented: “I am very proud of him and it was a tremendous effort from William Haggas to have him ready to run after such a long layoff.
“We went forward and I got a breather in to him down the back straight. We kicked at the top of the home run and for a moment I thought I had nicked it but in the end we were beaten by a very good horse on the night.”
Similarly pleased was Mikael Barzalona who rode Cat O’Mountain, and commented: “He ran a blinder from where he was drawn and could have been closer but for that.”
The Hong Kong and Japanese raiders all failed to get involved while Derby winner, Ruler Of The World weakened back to 13th of the 16 runners with connections reporting he failed to handle the all-weather track.

Gentlidonna Puts In Gutsy Performance for Dubai Sheema Classic Victory
The dual Japan Cup-winning Japanese mare, Gentildonna made up for her unlucky second in this same race last year with a record-breaking win in the Dubai Sheema Classic, presented by Longines (2400m) this time around.
She crossed the line in 2:27:25, a length and a half to the good of the French veteran Cirrus Des Aigles and Christophe Soumillon.
Moore settled the mare just off the pace, but had to use all his guile and persuasion to drive the 5y/o home ahead of one of the best fields yet assembled for the $US5 million race.
Last year she was beaten a length and a half by the Aidan O’Brien –trained St.Nicholas Abbey, when ridden by Yasunari Iwata.
Moore rode Gentildonna for the first time in her win in last year’s Japan Cup and has obviously developed a rapport with her, despite admitting after last night’s race that she was not the easiest horse – to ride.
“It’s hard to know just how good she is because when she gets to the front she doesn’t do a lot, but she’s very tough, and a hard horse to get to the bottom of,’’ Moore said.
Gentildonna has now won nine races with three seconds and a third from her 15 starts.
In an incident-packed race Gentildonna won by a length and a half from the French-trained veteran Cirrus Des Angles with English mare Ambivalent a half a length away in third.
The start was delayed for some minutes when Ambivalent, who is renowned for her pre-race antics, refused to go into the starting stalls and the attendants had to finally place a hood on her to get her into the gates.
About 400m after the start, the Mike de Kock-trained Mars veered out sharply causing interference to two other runners before crashing through the outside running rail.
Jockey Richard Hughes escaped with cuts and bruises and was momentarily winded after landing on his back. He was taken to hospital for precautionary x-rays.
In an amazing night’s racing, all four events run on the turf track produced track records.
Gentildonna’s time for the 2400m of 2:27.25 shaved 0.25 off the previous record.
Owner Shon Yoshida from Japan’s famous Northern Farm said he was not sure where Gentildonna would be heading next but there were no thoughts of retiring her this year.

Just A Way Goes All The Way In Record-Breaking Victory
Sunday, 30 March, 2014
Just A Way (JPN) unleashed lightning acceleration to win the US$5m Group 1 Dubai Duty Free sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, in the process slicing more than two seconds off the Meydan Racecourse track record for 1800m on turf.
One of three challengers from Japan, Just A Way (JPN) had impressed in his attitude to morning work all week and took that mood to the track.
The 5y/o son of Heart’s Cry was towards the rear early as compatriot Tokei Halo (JPN) set sail through some sizzling early fractions.
The field closed as one on the leader with 500m remaining but Just A Way’s jockey, Yuichi Fukunaga, chose to make his move on the wide outside.
“I wanted to take a midfield position but Vercengetorix was where I wanted to be,” said the winning jockey. “I decided to follow him and when I got to the straight he accelerated very well – as I thought he would.”
Ryan Moore, by contrast, kept Dank (GB) towards the inside and encountered trouble before running on into third place.
“The winner was alongside me for the first half of the race,” Moore said. “I was caught in traffic and felt she (Dank) was the second-best horse in the race. She ran a great race after her five-month absence (from the track).”
The South African challenger, Vercengetorix (SAF), weaved through to strike the front with 300m left but no sooner did jockey Christophe Soumillion entertain thoughts of victory than he was swamped by the winner.
“I thought I’d win when we turned for home so I was left speechless when the Japanese horse came flying past me,” Soumillon said.
Having cruised past Vercengetorix (SAF), Just A Way (JPN) opened up in the last 200m, drawing away with every stride to register by 6¼ lengths from Vercengetorix (SAF). Dank came home a further 1¾ lengths adrift, with Mshawish in fourth.
Just A Way came into the race having won his last two starts, the first of them a facile defeat of the Group 1 Japan Cup, Gentildonna (subsequently winner of tonight’s Group 1 US$5m Dubai Sheema Classic presented by Longines), over 2000m. His trainer, Naosuke Sugai, oozed confidence ahead of claiming the US$3 million winner’s purse – and rightly so, as it turned out.
“We had two plans and went with the second one, which was to sit behind in midfield,” the winning trainer said. “That’s what we did when we won the (Group 1) Tenno Sho and the jockey gave my horse one of the best rides I have ever seen.”
