Last-minute decision on Alive Alive Oh’s Oaks run

 BY TONY O’HEHIR7:24PM 16 JUL 2013

A DECISION on Alive Alive Oh’s participation in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Saturday will be left until as late as possible, with connections concerned about fast ground.

Tommy Stack’s filly has endured a frusrating campaign. She was withdrawn on the morning of the race when favourite for the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot when connections decided the ground was too quick.

Alive Alive Oh was then due to run in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on June 30, but was reported to be in season and missed the race.

“If it is on the firm side, she will not run. I’d imagine it will be a last-minute decision. If the ground is good, safe ground the filly will run,” said assistant trainer Fozzy Stack.

Fast ground looks likely at the Curragh as the going remained good to firm on Tuesday. Racecourse manager Paul Hensey said: “We watered the entire round course today having watered the straight track on Monday.

“We will walk both tracks in the morning and we might decide not to water tomorrow and to resume watering on Thursday and Friday. It was overcast here today and the forecast is for the dry weather to continue, with temperatures rising again towards the weekend.”

Alive Alive Oh, winner of both her starts this season, is a best-priced 9-2 to win the Irish Oaks.
