02/07/2018. Irish Derby success for Goffs November Sale graduate Latrobe

Latrobe secured Joseph O’Brien his first Classic success as a trainer with victory in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on Saturday.  Owned by Lloyd Williams and ridden by Donnacha O’Brien, the son of Camelot was sold at the Goffs November Foal Sale 2015 by Castletown Stud to Margaret O’Toole for €88,000.

This was the second Classic win for a Goffs graduate this season, following Forever Together’s victory in the Investec Oaks at Epsom last month.  Forever Together was sold by Ballylinch Stud for €900,000 to MV Magnier at the Orby Sale in 2016.

Saturday also saw a Group 3 double for Goffs with Sir Dancealot winning the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket and Above The Rest victorious in the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle.

Sir Dancealot was sold as a foal at Goffs November Sale by Vincent Duignan to Forge Stables for €15,000 and sold again as a yearling at Goffs Sportsman’s Sale by Forge Stables to J Moran/K Quinn for €30,000, while Above The Rest was sold at the November Foal Sale by Seskin Stud to Tim Hyde Jnr for €20,000.
