Alluringly (purple cap) | Racing Post

By Tom Frary

Alluringly was even-money when encountering Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in the Listed Cheshire Oaks May 10, but connections knew little of what they were taking on at that stage and may have been surprised that she ended up on the receiving end of a beating when 1 3/4 lengths second. By the time she had finished 11 lengths behind the same rival in the June 3 G1 Epsom Oaks, it was public knowledge that the Juddmonte filly was in a different parish and she trailed her by 12 1/2 lengths when sixth in the G1 Irish Oaks at The Curragh July 15. In between, the bay had also finished sixth in the G2 Ribblesdale S. at Royal Ascot June 22 and lined up for this in need of a boost to her confidence. Held up early by Seamie Heffernan towards the back, she was delivered stand’s side in the straight and got the better of the G3 Killavullan S. winner Making Light in the last 100 yards as the previously unbeaten Elegant Pose made for a classy trifecta.

Alluringly is royal blood, being a descendant of the groundbreaking Urban Sea (Miswaki) whose dam All For Glory’s first foal was the G2 Debutante S. third Toogoodtobetrue (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}). Aside from the Epsom Derby-winning megastars Galileo (Ire) and Sea the Stars (Ire), this is a family replete with Oaks fillies of which the second dam All Too Beautiful (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) is included following her third placing in the Epsom Classic. Her daughter Wonder of Wonders (Kingmambo) went one better than Alluringly and her dam by actually placing second at Epsom, while she was also third in the Irish Oaks and won the Listed Cheshire Oaks. Another of Urban Sea’s daughters, Melikah (Ire) (Lammtarra), was also third in the Epsom Oaks but second in the Irish equivalent while another of her cherished offspring Cherry Hinton (GB) (Green Desert) threw an Irish Oaks heroine in Bracelet (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). All For Glory’s 2015 filly is the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Ballet de La Reine (War Front), who has been placed once in two starts.

2017 Goffs Sportsman’s Catalogue Now Online

287 high class 2YO type yearlings make up this year’s Goffs Sportsman’s Sale on 28 September, the day immediately following the market leading Orby Sale. The catalogue for the sale, increasingly referred to as the ‘Irish Donny’ as it replicates the successful conformation led selection policy of its sister sale at Doncaster, is now online.

To underline the point several significant 2YO races have fallen to Sportsman’s graduates this season headed by BENGALI BOYS (pictured), who was the 6 length winner of the prestigious Weatherbys Super Sprint, leading a 1-2-3 for Goffs yearlings in the valuable 2YO contest. Bengali Boys was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Aidan O’Ryan and Richard Fahey for €11,000.

Further Sportsman’s success came when both legs of Britain’s first 2YO race, the Brocklesby Stakes were won by Sportsman’s buys. SANTRY took Division 1 before progressing to a close second in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, whilst REQUINTO DAWN was an impressive winner of Division 2 of the Brocklesby. Both horses cost just €24,000 each at last year’s sale.

Once again many of Ireland’s top consignors are represented in the Sportsman’s Sale with drafts offered from Abbeville Stud, Ballybin Stud, Ballyhane, Ballylinch Stud, Baroda & Colbinstown Stud, Camas Park Stud, Castletown Stud, Cregg Stud, Glenvale Stud, Grove Stud, Irish National Stud, Kilcarn Stud, Kildaragh Stud, Lodge Park Stud, Lynn Lodge Stud, Mountarmstrong Stud, Newlands House Stud, Oghill House Stud, Owenstown Stud, Rathasker Stud, Rathbarry Stud, Rossenarra Stud, Tally-Ho Stud, The Castlebridge Consignment, Tinnakill House and Yeomanstown Stud among others.

There is an excellent cross section of sires represented at this year’s sale, with some of Europe’s leading sires such as Cape Cross, Dark Angel, Kodiac, Lope de Vega, Pivotal, etc. combined with some exciting first season and first crop sires in Alhebayeb, Australia, Battle Of Marengo, Bungle Inthejungle, Charm Spirit, Es Que Love, Gale Force Ten, Gregorian, Moohaajim, Mukhadram, No Nay Never, Noble Mission, Ruler Of The World, Slade Power, War Command, etc. as well as some of the well-established and consistent sires including Big Bad Bob, Dandy Man, Fast Company, Footstepsinthesand, Zebedee, Zoffany and many more.

Commenting on the launch of the Sportsman’s catalogue, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

We have reverted to the sale’s most successful one day format this year and have handpicked a high quality bunch of commercial yearlings and real two year old types.  The sale takes place immediately following two days of the very best at Orby, resulting in an Irish yearling sales week that offers buyers at every level of the market the best chance to source their future winners.”
