Pivotal’s Avilius Captures the Suresnes

Avilius (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) was a Mar.10 debut fourth going one mile at Chantilly, breaking through upped to 9 1/2 panels back at that track last time Apr. 9, and continued his upward trend with a first black-type score here. Steadied to race off the pace in fifth after an alert break, the 6-5 favourite took closer order in the straight and stayed on strongly once rousted into action approaching the quarter-mile marker to gain the upper hand inside the final 100 metres for a career high. His winning margin was a short neck from My Scholar (Fr) (Pour Moi {Ire}) with Phoceen (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) 2 1/2 lengths further back in third.

The homebred bay is a full-brother to MGSW G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 Grand Prix de Paris placegetter Saint Baudolino (Ire), and a half to MGSP Army Bulletin (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who won the 2014 renewal of this contest. He is also half to a yearling filly by Shamardal. His second dam is MG1SP G3 Prix de Cabourg victress Tereshkova (Mr. Prospector), herself kin to G1 Middle Park S.-winning sire Lycius (Mr. Prospector) and GII Dixie H. and GII Bougainvillea H. winner and MGISP sire Akabir (Riverman).

SEDARY (FR) (f, 2, Style Vendome {Fr}–La Marisma {Fr}, by Sinndar {Ire}), who was an Apr. 4 debut third over this trip at Chantilly last time, raced in a prominent second after the initial strides of this return. Stoked up approaching the final furlong, the 8-5 favourite was ridden out in the closing stages to deny Teckwin (Fr) (French Fifteen {Fr}), who had finished one place ahead of her at Chantilly, by a nose on the line. The €30,000 ARAUG yearling is the first representative and winner produced by an unraced half-sister to French highweight and G1 Champion S.-winning sire Literato (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}). She is also the first scorer for G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains hero and Haras de Bouqetot-based freshman sire Style Vendome (Fr) (Anabaa). The chestnut’s granddam is G3 Prix Fille de l’Air third La Cibeles (Fr) (Cardoun {Fr}), herself a daughter of Spanish Mare of the Year Douberta (Fr) (Don Roberto). Choegang Schiller Back Winning, New Citadel Continues To Rise

He was the toast of the nation back in 2015 when he overcame El Padrino to become the first locally-trained winner of the Asia Challenge Cup and on Sunday Choegang Schiller finally returned to the Seoul Racecoure winner’s circle for the first time since that glorious day.

 

It had been setback after setback for Choegang Schiller since his Challenge Cup win with only five starts to his name since with the best result being 2nd place in the SBS Korea/Japan Cup last June. However, he returned from his latest setback in February with a strong 2nd to Parang Juuibo, who also returned on Sunday and he was sent off as the 2nd favourite for the 1200M feature.

Favourite was Always Winner but the Segye Ilbo Cup and Owners’ Trophy winner was forced to use up too much energy getting to his preferred front position from the outside gate, leaving him with nothing left in the closing stages. That set the race up beautifully for Choegang Schiller, who had been kept handy by apprentice jockey Kim Tea Hun, and he ran on powerfully to score by over two lengths. The fast early pace also benefited Dynamic Jilju and long-shot Holiday Dream who came home 2nd and 3rd, while Brian Dean’s Jangsanjewang, partially responsible for that pace, stayed on for a gutsy 4th.

Choegang Schiller (Artie Schiller), a six-year-old gelding, moved on to 8 wins from just 19 starts. Another go at the SBS Korea/Japan Cup in early June looks the obvious next step.

This time last week, we were getting excited about the performance of King Of Ace. The Busan-based US import moved on to three wins from three starts with an easy class 3 victory over a mile on Good Friday. On Sunday at Seoul, another three-year-old US import put in a performance worthy of note.

 

Before the race punters fancied that import to be Cheongdam Dokki but in the event, it was New Citadel (With Distinction) who burnished his credentials with a surprisingly dominant class 2 win over 1800M. Cheongdam Dokki had beaten New Citadel when the pair were juveniles last autumn and while the latter had already won at this distance, he was carrying an additional 5.5kg this time. No matter. The pair briefly came together at the top of the straight but from then on, New Citadel was far too good, romping away to win by six-lengths.

The next time we see New Citadel will be at class 1 as his rating was bumped up 13 points as a result. Should connections be feeling ambitious, the Busan Mayor’s Cup ‘would be a sporting, if unlikely target.

 

One US import who did lose a bit of her luster at the weekend was Haeya. The US-bred filly won four from four up to this January before coming down lame. She returned in Busan’s Sunday feature, up to class 1 for the first time. While she showed on speed for much of the race, ultimately, she would finish 4th as Doraonpogyeongseon (Kantharos) came through late to land his 6th victory on his 12th career start.

Mancano oramai pochi giorni alla disputa delle prime classiche italiane 2017. Lunedì 1 Maggio a capannelle si corrono Parioli Sisal Matchpoint G3 sui 1600 metri e Regina Elena RDS G3 sempre sui 1600 metri ma per femmine di 3 anni, le equivalenti delle 2000 Ghinee e le 1000 Ghinee di inglese concezione. Al momento manca ancora qualche ora affinchè i vari team sciolgano ogni dubbio ma la cosa certa è che si arriva ad un Parioli quest’anno molto bello con le più importante giubbe italiane rappresentate. Venerdì mattina 28 Aprile la dichiarazione ufficiale dei partenti. 

La Rencati ha dentro Amore Hass (Azamour), vincitore del Premio Pisa, la Incolinx sellerà il quotato e bellissimo Anda Muchacho (Helmet), vincitore del Gardone, la Effevi avrà 2 rappresentanti, almeno, in Together Again (Pivotal) e forse anche Breathing (Bated Breath). La We Bloodstock ha dentro Biz Power (Power), la Blueberry Dulciboy (Paco Boy) mentre Endo Botti sellerà il favorito Patriot Hero (Pivotal), vincitore dell’Arconte, e con in sella Frankie Dettori. Questi sono praticamente certi, poi a margine potranno entrare altri rappresentanti di altre linee che vanno comunque annoverati nella colonna sorprese. Come potrete vedere più sotto i rimasti sono ancora 63, questo perchè il meccanismo delle iscrizioni al momento è che non si paga nulla fino a quando non si corre. Per questo motivo ci sono dentro ancora gli irlandesi di Dermot Weld, il quale però ancora non ha dato conferme in tal senso e probabilmente non correranno.

Nel Regina Elena RDS la situazione è più fluida nel senso che non si hanno ancora troppe certezze. Sicure della presenza saranno Fataliste (Siyouni), con la monta di Frankie Dettori, poi Folega (Oasis Dream), Into The Lane (Excelebration), la sorellastra di Sound Of Freedom vincitrice di Elena, poi Mi Raccomando (Poet’s Voice), una delle più attese anche se al rientro è caduta all’uscita delle gabbie, mentre tra le altre arrivano conferme sulla presenza di Sopran Verne (Approve), che ha rifinito sui 1200 metri andando fortissimo come nello stile Bruno Grizzetti. Tra le altre ci sarò anche Raf Biondi con la sua Stamp Collecting (Casamento) vincitrice del Seregno. Dall’estero correrà Fongani (Siyouni) per Simone Brogi che avrà in sella Frederick Blondel. Dalla Francia confermata Mon Tresor (Kendargent) per Alessandro Botti e Ferdinando Fratini. Per Candy Store (Lope De Vega) c’è possibilità che allunghi la distanza, ma il Regina Elena era un obiettivo mirato da tempo. Nelle prossime ore ne sapremo di più.

Italians: Tripletta di Demuro a Kyoto, Umberto sigla ad Hong Kong. Ecco les italiens in Francia..

La rubrica italians si arricchisce una volta di più, tra Oriente ed Occidente. Cominciamo con il dire che ad Hong Kong Umbertino Rispoli ha conseguito la sua seconda affermazione stagionale vincendo a Sha Tin sui 1000 metri in erba l’Empowering Youth Handicap (Class 4) in sella a Keep Mooving (Darci Brahma) per i colori di Andrew Fan Chun Wah, Adam Lee Yat Keung & Gary Mui Ho Cheung e per il training di PF Yiu con un tempo incredibile di 56,88s. IL VIDEO QUI.

Nella corsa successiva secondo posto per Top Ace (Kitten’s Joy), ex Steaming Kitten in Italia, nell’Age-Friendly City Handicap sul dirt.

Rimanendo in Oriente, ma trasferendoci in Giappone, diamo conto dell’ennesima tripletta di Mirco Demuro a Kyoto. Non ha vinto la corsa principale del pomeriggio, ma ha comunque appuntato la bandierina in tre occasioni giusto per far capire chi comanda in questo momento da quelle parti. Mirco è ora a quota 59 affermazioni in stagione, a 13 lunghezze di distacco da Cristophe Patrice Lemaire, vero mattatore del fine settimana con tante vittorie che lo hanno fatto salire in cima, in quota a 46 vittorie in coppia con Hironobu Tanabe. 

Domenica a Lione, nel Prix Cyril Cottin, un handicap per 3 anni sul miglio, ha vinto Mybee Davis (Myboycharlie), un 3 anni alla prima affermazione per Ferdinando Fratini ed il training di Alessandro e Giuseppe Botti, con Pierre Bazire in sella. Ferdinando Fratini ci ha confermato che lunedì correrà il Regina Elena G3 con Mon Tresor (Kendargent), interessantissima vincitrice in Francia qualche settimana fa di un handicap tostissimo. Simone Brogi ha dato conferma della presenza di Fongani (Siyouni), vincitrice di 2 corse in carriera ma con un valeur apparentemente in linea con altre che non sono delle prime lame in Italia. 

Sempre a Lione, 18° vittoria in stagione per Gabriele Congiu.

In tema di italiani in Francia, confermata la presenza della “Giorgi” The Pantry (Zebedee) il 1° Maggio a Chantilly in una classe 2, dopo essere stata oggetto di attenzioni di parte di acquirenti stranieri.
