Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) – 1000 metri: Ancora Lanfranco, per la 49° volta al Royal Meeting, festeggiata con un bel salto. Ancora i colori della Al Shaqab Racing (Joann Al Thani) a trionfare in una corsa per i puledri: Baitha Alga (Fast Company) ha vinto in stile davvero fine, di classe, che ne fa pensare ad un cavallo che può diventare di spessore con la sua velocità da sfruttare soprattutto a 2 anni: Allenato da Richard Hannon, il figlio di Fast Company(Danehill Dancer) aveva stracorso ad Epsom quando ha riportato le Woodcote Stakes Lr, ed è progredito ulteriormente alla 4° uscita in carriera, con la terza affermazione consecutiva. Montato da Lanfranco Dettori, ha battuto Mind Of Madness (Azamour) conAhlan Emarati (Holy Roman Emperor) ed il favorito The Great War (War Front) solo quinto. Tercentenary Stakes (Group 3) – 2000 metri: Interessante il nome uscito dalla corsa: Ha vinto Cannock Chase (Lemon Drop Kid), reduce da una convincente prestazione di Newbury nel London Gold Cup Handicap del 17 Maggio scorso, che ha giustificato in pieno il ruolo di favorito regalando a Sir Michael Stoute il 70° vincitore al Royal Ascot. Prince of Wales’s Stakes G1 - 2000 metri: Si attendeva una femmina alla vittoria, ma alla fine non è stata Treve (Motivator). Otto anni dopo Ouija Board, l’ultima a vincere la corsa più importante di tutto il meeting, è stata The Fugue (Dansili) ad iscrivere il proprio nome sul palo di arrivo. Treve non ha fatto la Treve, nel senso che alla prima uscita sul suolo britannico, fuori dai confini francesi, si è trovata alle prese con una corsa un filo troppo veloce per lei e su distanza forse divenuta troppo corta. Sta di fatto che a metà gara sembrava quasi non seguisse, è entrata in dirittura, ha prodotto una progressione (non la sua solita) e non è riuscita nemmeno a battere Magician (Galileo), arrivato secondo. Male, male davvero per una cavalla annunciata al 100% e pertanto senza palesi giustificazioni ed una conferma dopo la sconfitta patita anche al rientro dallo stratosferico Cirrus des Aigles. Forse non ha fatto il passaggio d’età, semplicemente. Comunque, onore alla vincitrice The Fugue (Dansili), presentata veramente in formato magnum da John Gosden con un William Buick che l’ha, come al solito, assecondata secondo quelle che sono le sue caratteristiche. Ha seguito il battistrada Elkaayed, ed in un paio di folate l’ha volato via tenendo 1 lunghezza e mezza, con Magician che si è protratto fino a grabbare il secondo, e la sorella di Treve solo laboriosamente terza. QUEEN ANNE STAKES: Toronado è tornato ed ha colpito. Il figlio di High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), al rientro da 300 giorni dalla brutta prestazione nelle Juddmonte International Stakes G1 di York, ha ottenuto una convincente vittoria nelle Queen Anne Stakes G1 sul miglio in pista dritta, prova inaugurale del Royal Meeting 2014. Montato da Richard Hughes, per una postilla contrattuale apposita rispetto a Lanfranco Dettori, il cavallo allenato da Richard Hannon Junior è gravitato nelle posizioni di metà gruppo, si è presentato bene ed ha prodotto la sua accelerazione bruciante per risolverla pare con il minimo sforzo e per emergere nelle fasi finali sull’avversario diretto Verrazano (More Than Ready), Anodin (Anabaa) rimasto in quota al terzo con Peslier che per poco non compie un capolavoro con un cavallo non fenomenale, ed al quartoTullius (Le Vie Dei Colori) in progresso. Tempo finale di 1m 37.73s (fast by 1.07s), in generale buono, terza misura più veloce degli ultimi 10 anni. A parte il vincitore, non è stata una esibizione convincente. Avevano ragione gli scommettitori che hanno continuato a giocare fino alla fine Toronado, facendo scendere di molto la sua quota, lasciando salire all’inverosimile Verrazano, il cavallo che sembrava il rivale più accreditato. Crediamo abbia vinto per la scarsezza degli altri, anche se Aidan O’Brien ha parlato di un buon Verrazano. Bah, sarà..Obiettivi per lui: Eclipse, Juddmonte e Irish Champion.
